The health benefits of sex toys

For women
Sam Evans, a former nurse, is the co-founder and managing director of the sex toy firm Jo Divine. She claims that an increasing number of clients are seeking goods to aid in the treatment of certain health conditions:
“Sex toys can help with the treatment of menopausal symptoms such as vaginal atrophy, vulval/vaginal pain and tightness (due to vaginismus, vulvodynia, lichen sclerosis, gynae cancer treatments and surgical interventions, neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, lack of arousal, and low libido.” Some drugs, such as cancer therapies, antidepressants, antihistamines, and blood pressure and heart medications, can have an effect on sexual function and enjoyment in both men and women. Dr. Stephanie de Giorgio, a general practitioner with a specific interest in women’s health, suggests using sex toys for some health conditions.
“In a study of menopausal women, one unexpected advantage of sex toy use was an improvement in sleep and nighttime menopausal sweating,” she explains. “There is also evidence that using thin internal vibrators with enough good-quality vaginal lubrication can assist to enhance blood flow to the vaginal region, alleviating symptoms of some vaginal disorders. According to several studies, women prefer to utilize thin vaginal vibrators rather than the more clinical dilators that are frequently given. This can be used in conjunction with other treatments, such as local anesthetic gels, medicine, and psychiatric therapy.”
Vibrators may provide many sorts of sexual stimulation, which can be advantageous when there is a lack of sexual pleasure, a low libido, or an inability to experience orgasm.
“Using a thin vibrator can assist to stretch the tissues of the vagina to allow painless entry, and the vibrations enhance blood flow to the vaginal walls, facilitating healing, activating nerves, and enhancing lubrication,” Evans says.
For men
A variety of sexual issues in males may be alleviated by the use of various sex toys. These include erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, libido loss, and post-surgical complications for a number of illnesses.
“Constriction rings can help a guy keep his erection for longer, harder, and postpone ejaculation,” Evans adds. “Male vibrators, which are specifically built for this purpose, can assist men in gaining an erection and stimulating nerve endings. They can also aid delayed ejaculation by providing a different sexual experience than manual masturbation.”
De Giorgio concurs that these vibrators can be beneficial in the treatment of male sexual dysfunction and adds:
“Penile suction devices are available for purchase as well as on prescription, however, it is essential to get medical guidance before using them. With considerable success, one study looked at the use of penile sleeves and penile prosthesis (more commonly known as’strap-ons’ and used by women) as unusual means of allowing men to continue having penetrative intercourse with a partner if they couldn’t obtain a functional erection.”
Surprising benefits
“Using sex toys to increase sexual pleasure and orgasm can help you sleep, improve immunity, relieve pain, decrease stress, and raise your cognitive function,” Evans explains. “And age is not an impediment. One woman informed us she had her first orgasm at the age of 70 while using a sex toy. Unlike medicine, they have few negative effects and can enable many women to have clitoral orgasms and G-spot orgasms that they may not have had previously. When penetrative intercourse is not feasible, sex toys can help people maintain their sexual intimacy and enjoyment.”
One advantage of integrating sex toys into the dynamic for both men and women is that it opens up a discourse about sex and what they love as individuals and as a couple.
“It may be something they haven’t attempted previously because of shame or fear of purchasing products,” adds de Giorgio, “but expert counsel is accessible, and they may discover that their sex lives benefit from this new openness.”
